National Parks and eBiking

The most succinct description of eBike use in New Zealand’s National Parks that I have seen is this from Te Papa Atawhai, the Department of Conservation.

“Each National Park has its own national park management plan (NPMP) which is prepared in accordance with the National Parks Act 1980 and is required to be consistent with the General Policy for National Parks 2005 (GPNP). Due to the significant value of national parks, consideration is given to the balance between preserving the natural heritage and the rights of the public to access and enjoy these special places.”

“The GPNP defines non-powered vehicles as including non-motorised cycles and mountain bikes (e-bikes are non-motorised cycles) and provides direction on where they are allowed. The GPNP states non-motorised vehicles should not be used in a national park except on a formed road or where provided for in the NPMP.”

We believe that all the rides on this site are ebike rideable. Go and have fun!
